Windsurfing: Bradfield Wind Direction: NNE Wind Stength: 10-15kts Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: warm sunny Sea Temperature: warm Weather: sunny Max Speed: 23.44 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 9.3 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Arrive at Bradfield 1pm ish after kind text from Jason. 3 out blasting down
the middle James, Jason and Keith F. It was blowing easy 15kts and they
were out on 7M. Thought about 7.8 then saw Keith landing saying its
dropping, rigged 8.6M. Yep it was going to be an up/down day and gusty, as
coming straight on shore from behind the trees at Holbrook. They were
sailing full length of the river Bradfield to Wrabness with Keith heading
for Manningtree at the other end on one gust.
Rigged 8.6 Gaastra Savage / 145L Patrik F-Ride, the new beast. First few
runs were wallowing not in straps but moving, then the wind kicked in after
beating out to the middle, with tide coming in. Good runs down to Wrabness,
and nice hard planning runs all the way back to Bradfield on a flat river.
Wind swung 15/20 degrees regularly, and switched off instantly from time to
time, so it wasn't comfortable all the time.
Am still testing the Patrik 145 F-ride. Its 75 wide a parallel shaped with
a wide rear and flat bottom, very light Carbon BUT I think its gutless and
having sold my 2012 JP 146L Pro Carbon board I have cocked up. I was flat
out one gust, bore off and the board only hit the days max of 23.44kts.
That would have been an easy 25/26kts with the JP, which was a corky board,
which also planed much earlier than the Patrik. The Patrik felt like it was
dragging weed like most plastic boards at rental centres. I had to check
for weed a few times it was so slow! It needs pumping on the plane every
time. Moved the MF back to middle but it didn't seem any quicker. The JP
felt fast even if it wasn't going fast, but the Patrik was not corky and a
bit too stable (boring).
I was using a 50cm upright race fin, so I am going to try the original
swept back 48cm to see if it makes a difference. If not its back on Ebay!!
Jason had the best day planning quite a lot, Keith had a full on 8.5 Race
RRD sail, but was struggling on the 120 Isonic as not enough wind. James
was flying after rigging 8m. All in all a good workout at Bradfield
covering 9.3nm only stopping to make adjustments a couple of times. Easy
sailing on flat water burning 1250 calories!
